Regen Rcvr Contest

 

Starting at the upper left is a receiver and a receiver / transmitter pair constructed by Bob Henriksen KFØAM. The designs were based on articles in the old QST magazines which are displayed near the equipment. Proceeding clockwise, the receiver designed and built by Scott Rausch WAØVKC is presented. The receiver was constructed in modules interconnected by audio cable. The design of each of the modules was covered in the Regenerative Receiver Design Class which was held in Aug -Oct '04. The commercial unit to right is a broadcast band regen receiver owned by Scott's father-in-law Edwin Ganske. While growing up in the 1930's and 40's, Edwin was interested in electronics and wanted to make it his career, but was discouraged by his parents who wanted him to stay home on the farm. The large unit and the home-built motor were contributed by Bob Strand KBØDLB. Both units were constructed by Bob's father as a youngster. The Regenerative Receiver project sponsored by the BHARC in 2004 culminated with the display of the receivers at the recent auction held on 19 Feb 2005. The Black Hills ARC completed its Regenerative Receiver design contest activity at the club auction on 19 February 2005.  The contest committee decided not to make electrical measurements of the submitted equipment, but to display each of the radios without the "contest" atmosphere.  Six units were available for display.
